i have to agree with him. if you're a developer, why not just outsource it for like 10-20% of the price in a language that you're comfortable with? this way you can still keep tabs on quality and business logic by sifting through your outsourced work, while marketing or focusing on other aspects of the app.
Not that I disagree with him or anything, but it's important to remember that Roger is the founder of Gigster, who's main revenue source comes from startups that need outsourcing. Just take that into consideration before concluding that YC's way of doing things is wrong and his is correct.
I've also noticed a trend among YC founders lately saying that YC is not as big of a deal as people think. Which to me is fine since YC tends to get way more credit for the success of these companies than it deserves, especially when their approach is usually to let their founders do their thing and not get in the way. But still, the method works, and it's no coincidence that they've been so successful.
